SO YOU WANT TO BE SELF EMPLOYED…

As The Cool Car Guy, I’m self-employed as an Independent Contractor in the automotive industry and I hang my license at a car dealership in Denver.  I have a great occupation because I really don’t have a boss, other than my clients and I get to make my own hours.  I also have the advantage of operating in the realm of profits rather than wages and profits are always better than wages, but my industry is also extremely competitive and it can be very time consuming.

There are also challenges when you’re self-employed and that’s because a self-employed business or any type of direct sales business is “linear”.   Unless I have a new client, I wake-up out of a job.  If I don’t make a sale, I don’t get paid.  If I take a vacation or get sick I don’t get paid.  This is the same case for doctors, dentists, real estate agents and any other self-employed person, who may have their own business, but their business is doesn’t allow them to leverage their time.

BEING SELF-EMPLOYED COMPARED TO A NETWORK MARKETING BUSINESS…

In most businesses, like opening a franchise for example, you can create leverage by hiring employees or opening another location.  The owner of the business can go on vacation and his or her employees are still earning money for the company.  These businesses allow the owner to create leverage, but at a hefty price.  It can cost a small fortune to open a business or a franchise with a great deal of risk that it may not take off as planned or you suddenly have rent, payroll taxes, inventory and other expenses.

What about Network Marketing?  I’ve met so many people over the years who shut down their brain the minute you mention Network Marketing as a viable business.  It’s true that many Network Marketing companies do not have very good pay plans or products and are difficult to build a profitable business.  The same is true though about many franchises or other business ventures that I’ve seen over the years.  The fact is that a Network Marketing business can be extremely profitable, rewarding and fun, even when done part-time.  I’m not talking about just any Network Marketing in this article though, but one that I got involved with for just $10 with great products and a fantastic pay plan.
